|Air quality is an area of increasing concern as study after study is showing correlation with disease risk and incidence from exposure to airborne contaminants. The studies range from increased incidence of asthma in the presence of household particulate matter, to the increased incidence of cardiovascular deaths the closer one lives to a highway, to the increased incidence of autism related to diesel exhaust exposure, to the surprising revelation that indoor air quality is much more toxic than outdoor air. For these and many more reasons, an indoor air filter can be quite helpful in reducing incidence of disease as well as reducing symptoms associated with air pollution.|
|IQ Air Purifiers|
|For the best in air purification, we recommend the IQ Air purifiers for their ultra-fine filtration capacity (0.003 microns). In addition to the pleated filtration system, their carbon-block construction not only will address particulate matter, it also absorbs solvents and other volatile chemical compounds.
From the IQ Air website: "An air purifier can help protect the health of everyone in your home. But the wrong air purifier is more than just a waste of money, it also fails to protect your health. Ordinary HEPA air purifiers can stop some of the airborne contaminants in the air you breathe. But IQAir is proven to filter tiny ultrafine particles, the most harmful of all.
Ultrafine particles represent 90 percent of all the airborne pollution you breathe, and can include dust, pet dander, viruses, pollution particles or even cigarette smoke. Unfortunately, ordinary HEPA air purifiers are only tested at 0.3 microns or larger. On the other hand, IQAir's HyperHEPA filtration is tested and certified to filter ultrafine particles all the way down to 0.003 microns - the smallest particles that exist - with a guaranteed efficiency of more than 99.5 percent. What's the point of owning an air purifier unless it can protect you against the most harmful pollution of all?"
|Austin Air Purifiers|
|While the IQ Air is the top of the line regarding air filtration, the Austin Air comes in as our second choice. The construction is durable and made in the USA with both the pleated filters as well as a carbon block filtration system. The IQ Air systems filter down to the 0.3 micron particle size. A significant "plus" of the Austin Air purifiers is that they offer a 30 day money-back guarantee (minus a shipping and handling fee) if you are not completely satisfied with the unit.
From the Austin Air website: "For everyday air quality concerns, Austin Air Purifiers combine proven air filtration technology to provide the best overall protection from a wide range of airborne particles, gases and odors. Backed by the best warranty in the industry, you can take pleasure in knowing you've made a sound investment with your Austin Air cleaner"
|Air pollution may increase stroke, heart attack risk|
|A brief uptick in traffic-related air pollution may be enough to increase a person's short-term risk of stroke, new research suggests.
An analysis of 10 years of data from a major Boston stroke center has found that strokes are more likely to occur immediately following 24-hour periods in which air quality drops into the range the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) considers "moderate."
